Presentation: “The Cockroach Protocol: Research-Driven Communications at Sound Transit”

What do cockroaches and lizards have to do with strategic communications, market research and transit? Ron Klein will tell you at the February 2011 Puget Sound Research Forum luncheon.

A seasoned advertising and communications professional, Ron Klein leads Sound Transit's communications and external affairs department. Sound Transit provides commuter bus, train and light rail service to the Puget Sound region. The agency is the midst of a $15 billion, 15-year program to extend light rail and expand bus and train service to 2.7 million people within the agency's district.

About the Speaker

As Executive Director of Communications & External Affairs, Ron Klein manages Sound Transit's $7.5 million communications budget and a 37 person department. Key responsibilities include strategic communication with agency leadership and media, liaising with elected officials and community organizations, developing and overseeing public relations and marketing campaigns and directing customer outreach. Prior to joining the Sound Transit team, Klein served as Director of Communications for Pierce County and spent several years at the advertising/PR firm, Cole & Weber, where he served as Executive Creative Director and Senior Vice President. Klein's work has been recognized by industry peers and leaders with numerous awards including: Addy, Andy, AdWheels, Cannes Lions and Emmy!
