    This Consumer Researcher will be instrumental in contributing to the primary research function at Nordstrom.  We are the headlights of the business, shining light on key strategic initiatives. Our research vision employs traditional surveys and marketing research techniques, but also brings in a critical in-the-moment, qualitative dimension by embedding ourselves (physically and/or digitally) with customers as they shop and live their daily lives. The result is providing our partners with timely insights that help them make critical business decisions, keeping the consumer in mind. 

    The ideal candidate will possess a strong research background spanning multiple research techniques from quantitative to qualitative; from surveys and focus groups, to consumer panel/community engagement.  In addition, a successful candidate will possess: effective communication skills, deep empathy, collaborative interpersonal skills as well as experience with technology, processes, and methodologies that support successful research.     Position Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with teams across the organization to deliver on research projects/leverage consumer insights to drive business results
    • Lead and/or support projects and/or multiple work streams both on a vended model as well as utilizing do-it-yourself tools.
    • Strong knowledge of research fundamentals and methodologies along with and analysis techniques
    • Builds and maintains bridges to other research-related functions in the business (e.g. UX, CorpAnalytics) to ensure project collaboration and optimize efficiency across teams.

    • At least 3 years of experience in consumer research, analytics or related field. Bachelor’s degree, with advanced degree preferred.

    • Hands-on experience utilizing quantitative/qualitative research tools and techniques including surveys, panel/community engagement, focus groups, web analytics, etc.

    • Experience with vendor management including selecting the appropriate vendor for the project, adhering to timelines, and executing within budget.

    Position Summary

    Lead research projects that utilize a blend of primary and secondary data, with emphasis on primary consumer surveys and quantitative analysis.     Responsibilities:

    As Market Research Director your responsibilities will include:

    Insights and Strategy Delivery

    • Analyze and synthesize multiple, complex data sets including primary and secondary research (e.g., qualitative and quantitative consumer data, sales data such as IRI, Nielsen, Euromonitor, census and other government data) with ability to work independently to translate data into strategic implications and recommendations to address key client business issues
    • Create and deliver strong client deliverables that demonstrate thoughtful analysis and data interpretation via strong written and visual storytelling including research insights, strategic frameworks, and compelling narratives to bring to life opportunities
    • Collaborate within a dynamic, cross-disciplinary team and engage in cross-discipline project activities
    • Provide analytical and thought leadership and mentoring to project teams

    Project Management and Execution

    • Manage survey-based research projects from start to finish, partnering across disciplines and departments for a smooth client experience
    • Design, plan, and lead studies with a wide range of mixed methods (with emphasis on quantitative research, stakeholder interviews, cultural analysis and secondary research)
    • Develop research instruments and planning tools (sample design, questionnaire design, data processing and analysis plans, etc.)
    • Manage timelines, project goals and expectations of key internal/external stakeholders to achieve rapid analytical workflow

    Client Management and Satisfaction

    • Manage day-to-day client and vendor relations for projects, proactively identifying and addressing needs/risks to drive satisfaction and positive project outcomes
    • Confidently lead all client communications from initial kick-off to interim project status updates and final presentation delivery across a variety of phone, webinar and in-person settings
    • Actively acquire and demonstrate current knowledge of client business, competitive environment and larger food industry
    • Facilitate internal and client work sessions/ideations (progressive responsibility)

    Technical/Specialized Skills:

    • 3+ years experience leading development and testing of questionnaires for large sample consumer surveys
    • Experience using quantitative analytical techniques such as regression and factor analysis
    • Experience with data management and processing
    • Proficiency in quantitative programs, including SPSS, R and/or Stata
    • Professional or personal expertise in topics of Health & Wellness, Sustainability, Food Trends a plus
    • Proficiency and savvy in data visualization tools a plus, such as Tableau, ggplot, PowerBI or equivalent

    Additional Requirements:

    • Graduate degree in analytical or insights-focused fields such as sociology, economics, political science, statistics or allied field
    • Minimum 5-7 years of prior work experience in consumer survey research, preferably with experience within a CPG organization or consumer research agency

    Job Description:

    The Senior Research Associate (SRA) is responsible for project coordination and supporting management through all phases of the research project. The SRA must be detailed-oriented and able to reliably and efficiently run survey data for the purposes of report production. The SRA is responsible for the overall quality assurance of client deliverables that are eventually delivered. The Senior Research Associate will be overseen by a Research Director. The SRA will work with the team in communicating with the client on the progress of research studies and working closely with the client and the research team to implement and complete a survey project with utmost quality in a timely fashion.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    With general supervision, has independent responsibility for executing assigned projects.

    Take direction from the Research Director and team and then independently investigate the dataset to address specific business questions. Ability to do the following tasks:

    ·    Assist the project team throughout research projects, from design to report analysis and production

    ·    Interrogate survey dataset to address client business questions.

    ·    Ensure quality of data.

    ·    Populate and QC reports/presentations.

    ·    Provide the day-to-day management of research projects

    Experience and Skills:

    Job Description

    The Research Manager assists in leading and managing multiple quantitative market research projects from the proposal stage through to final report delivery. Specifically, Research Managers are expected to input on design specifications (including sample/weighting construction, questionnaire construction, analysis and reporting plans), manage the project to these specifications, contribute to report findings, and participate in client management.

    Essential Duties And Responsibilities

    • Research Instrument Design – Assist in the design survey research that will answer business questions and will meet the research and business objectives as defined in the proposal stage. Strong understanding of question and questionnaire construction is a must.
    • Full Cycle Project Management – Manage the day-to-day aspects for the research program from design and programming through to report analysis and production. Monitor and report out on study performance in terms of schedule, quality, and budgets.
    • Data Analysis Planning/Execution – Design and prepare data analysis plans, oversee data checking/tabulations, ensure quality of data, design report visuals.
    • Data Interpretation and Reporting – Contribute to the integration of large amounts of data into compelling, concise deliverables that meet the client’s needs/expectations. Participate in research insight discussions with clients.
    • Client Management – Work with mid to senior level clients on various aspects of the research (design, timing, reporting, etc.), providing project updates, and delivering above and beyond client expectations. Anticipate clients’ needs/requirements and proactively manage situations to expectations and resolve any issues. Understand and advise on research issues including ad hoc requests as appropriate. Recognize opportunities for new business development.
    • Mentor – Demonstrate capability to lead, train, and mentor junior staff.

    Experience And Skills

    • 4-5 years within the market research industry on either the client or supplier side
    • Outstanding client management skills; outstanding project management skills; excellent understanding of data analysis tools and techniques
    • Experience in the technology industry a plus

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in economics, marketing, mathematics, or social science.
