JOB TITLE:                                                  Research Project Coordinator

EXEMPTION STATUS:                          Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:                                            Associate Research Director

                                                                        Project Manager or Research Lead on individual projects

Summary of job description: This position is responsible for supporting the management of research projects, working closely with department seniors and directors to assist them in meeting client needs, and assisting with:

·       Implementing research

·       Analyzing data

·       Writing reports

Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management

·       Assist with analyzing data (charts and descriptive statistics) and writing reports that communicate findings to clients

·       Manage focus group and interview recruitment and hosting

·       Coordinate research implementation (working with vendors, scheduling facilities, program online surveys, monitor responses, answer participant inquiries, and provide participant reminders)

·       Manage assigned tasks under the direction of senior associates and directors

Client Relations

·       Establish effective communication with clients, vendors and communities

·       Assist with managing client expectations

·       Anticipate client needs

·       Provide best possible solutions to client, as directed by supervisor, project managers, and research leads

·       Maintain confidentiality of client information


·       Assist with acquiring estimated project costs (working/coordinating with vendors)

·       Work efficiently to stay within project budgets

·       Maintain or exceed billability goals

Quality Assurance

·       Set and maintain high, “error free” standards for all communications to clients and project staff

·       Meet deadlines and respond to requests in a timely manner


  • Provide accurate and timely billing information to accounting department

Business Development

  • Assist senior staff and directors to solicit and win new projects
  • As directed, represent firm and work with prospective and current clients

Knowledge/Skills required:

  • Interest in public opinion, behavior, and communications research (surveys, focus groups, and usability)
  • Ability to summarize and analyze research results in a meaningful way
  • Introduction and familiarity with statistics and social science research methodology
  • ·       Know and are resourceful with different ways to find information
  • ·       Ability to work with data in Excel, particularly organizing and charting data (Preferred but not required: Stata, SPSS, Tableau, Access, SQL, SAS, R, Python, etc.)
  • ·       Can apply critical thinking skills to understand and question data and information
  • Ability to coordinate events, and work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to multi task: cope with distractions, and handle numerous functions simultaneously
  • Ability to write concisely and quickly in a variety of styles, appropriate to the communications objectives of a project
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work on a team
  • At minimum, intermediate knowledge MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent telephone skills
  • Ability to stay on task and meet deadlines
  • Confidentiality/dependability/mature judgment
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Ability to travel up to once or twice per month
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English


  • Undergraduate degree in a social science with courses in research methodology and statistics (or commensurate experience)
  • Two or more years related experience

Physical Requirements:

Ability to:

·       work extended hours as projects require

·       speak and hear

·       sit for extended periods

·       operate office equipment
